Muara Putus MPR Observation Report Dec 17, 2011

Dear colleagues,

MPR LAN connection had been bad since December 16 morning, just before shift change at 11 AM. Based on Kamimera-san report, the connection become worse since the day afternoon which forced him to do the monitoring task near MPR trailer by wireless LAN connection. This could be probably caused by the condition of the LAN cable itself which become worse after being exposed by various weather condition for a half month long.

Another problem was the velocity sign issue which occurred randomly. This problem usually could be solved by restarting the GDRX-SP (signal processor). This time however, the problem still occurred even if we restarted GDRX-SP.  Therefore, we finally used configuration file provided by SELEX engineer and we replaced the old one on GDRX-SP, and finally, the problem was solved. The velocity sign is return back to normal now (since 1:30 PM).

As for LAN connection, we decided to use two LAN hubs. We put the first hub in the middle of connection between MPR trailer and house, and another one is inside the house. Initially, the connection was not recovered even if we use two hubs, meanwhile the cable itself was fine. After several tests, we tried to unplug the cable from MPR trailer and plug it in again, and the cable connection was finally recovered. Therefore, we finally could monitor the MPR operation from our house again.

The weather itself was cloudy during afternoon, and we had light rain around 5 PM. Anyway, it stopped after 10 minutes. MPR also detected medium to heavy precipitation around Siberut and Sipora islands. The wind was rather calm (< 2m/s), and it mostly came from northwest direction.

Best regards,

-ardhi-

Sounding Report of Sipora (Dec. 16)

Dear All,

It was continuous rain in Dec.15 (mainly in the night and afternoon),
and short time afternoon rain today.

Lower tropospheric westerly wind tends to be intensified for a few days.

We will restart 3-hourly sounding from 18 December or 19 December until
the end.

# If we would use "old" transmitter, total number of transmitters
(includes spare) would be enough for the whole period observation.

If you have any suggestions, please let us know.
