Re: The Passing MJO through Indonesia Maritime Continent

Pak Ardhi, Very good spirit and approach. You look to become a
good observational scientist already. Your indicated arrow
starts near 100 E at 18 UT on Dec. 1, and ends near 130 E at 12
UT on Dec. 5, which implies an eastward propagation of 3330 km
per 90 h = 37 km/h = about 10 m/s.
You could also find smaller-scale disturbances as especially
large rainfalls. You also notice some of them are near coasts
of Sumatera (100 E, 105E), Kalimantan (110E, 120E) and Papua
(130 E, 150E), and also near local afternoon-evening (06-18 UT).
So the next step is how the structure of precipitating clouds
originally included in the ISV (MJO) were modified near each
coastline and around sunset. Yes, you have understood that
you must be able to check the MPR data observed by yourself
at west Sumatera.
Cheers!

The Passing MJO through Indonesia Maritime Continent

Dear colleagues,

I've made small figures during my free time of the passing MJO through Indonesia Maritime Continent by utilizing GSMaP NRT hourly data. The data period was started from Dec 1 (00 UTC) to Dec 5 (18 UTC).

Re: Re: BJ-IV is sailing without serious problems

Dear colleagues.
BJ (Dr.Yoneyama, Dr.Kubota) has decided to do stationary observations
at 7S, 95S, and they will arrive there soon (already?).
Routine observations have been carried out very regularly.

A shower was observed last night, but now weather is fine, in spite of
strong NW wind (10 m/s) and high waves (3 m).
Regards,
MDY

Figures for Quick Look of Sipora observation (Dec 1-5)

Dear all:

Uploaded figures were prepared by Hamada-san and should have been
attached his Sipora report on "Quick Look of Sipora observation (Dec 1-5)".

MJO is passing through Kalimantan and Slawesi?

Dear all:

MJO index and GSMaP show the MJO is running over the middle of MC.
Convetive activity in the western Sumatera has been suppressed.

Hamada-san and I propose you to finish the 3-hourly sounding once by the
end of today (Dec.07) when the full one week soundings has been
completed, and prepare for its next chance may be coming in the late
December.

Quick Look of Sipora observation (Dec 1-5)

Dear Mori-san, Ardhi-san, Kamimera-san and colleagues,

I attached a ppt file for quick look of sonde/aws observation in Sipora
during 1-5 December.

As you can see, first 3 days were wet with the passing of MJO cloud
system, but it becomes dryer and dryer after 3 December.

Sipora team suggests that it would be better to stop 3-hourly sonde
observation soon (by 8 December or the MJO index becomes 6 (Western
Pacific)) and restart it in the end of IOP (maybe after 19 December).

Please let us know rain cloud activities near Sumatera Island by
MPR/XDR observational and your suggestions.

Best regards,

Hamada@Sipora
