MJO is passing through Kalimantan and Slawesi?

Dear all:

MJO index and GSMaP show the MJO is running over the middle of MC.
Convetive activity in the western Sumatera has been suppressed.

Hamada-san and I propose you to finish the 3-hourly sounding once by the
end of today (Dec.07) when the full one week soundings has been
completed, and prepare for its next chance may be coming in the late
December.

Quick Look of Sipora observation (Dec 1-5)

Dear Mori-san, Ardhi-san, Kamimera-san and colleagues,

I attached a ppt file for quick look of sonde/aws observation in Sipora
during 1-5 December.

As you can see, first 3 days were wet with the passing of MJO cloud
system, but it becomes dryer and dryer after 3 December.

Sipora team suggests that it would be better to stop 3-hourly sonde
observation soon (by 8 December or the MJO index becomes 6 (Western
Pacific)) and restart it in the end of IOP (maybe after 19 December).

Please let us know rain cloud activities near Sumatera Island by
MPR/XDR observational and your suggestions.

Dear friends,

This is daily report on December 6, 2011 (00 – 21 UTC).

Weather condition:

Day : very cloudy at 06:30 (LT), but clear all day long, and cloudy (thin cloud in middle an upper) at 18:30 (LT).

Night : clear

Atmospheric condition:

Day:

>temperature : 24.1 at 06:30 (LT), 30.4 at 9:30 (LT), 32.1 at 12:30 (LT), 30.8 at 15:30 (LT), and decrease to 27.3 at 18: 30 (LT).

> humidity : 91 at 06:30 (LT), and decreased to 67, 61, 60, at 9:30 (LT), 12:30 (LT), 15:30 (LT), and 76 at 18:30 (LT)

Night:

> temperature: 25.0 at 21:30 (LT), 24.5 at 01: 30 (LT), and 23.6 at 03:30 (LT).

> humidity : 87, 86, 89 at 21:30 (LT), 01: 30 (LT), and 03:30 (LT).

Maximum elevation : around 20 km and above (around 22 km)

Surface wind speed 0.0 at night. Day to night, mostly flight direction were vertical.

Comments:

- Many raw PTU/ wind data were lose around 9 -12 km height and near tropopausa (when balloon was launched at 6:30)

- Above 12 km, raw PTU/ wind data base lacked for many levels. EDT wind data were lose between 11.9 km and 13.3 km, and 20,3 km – last (when balloon was released at 12:30).
